These pictures happened so perfectly I can’t even stand it.
Little Scarlett is a ball of attitude and personality!
Happy upcoming 2nd birthday big girl!
Our family friend from out last duty station was here on vacation and decided to ask me for some senior portraits. While I don’t want to say i’m a senior photographer, I said I’d help her out! I did make sure to label her album “teen portraits” instead of senior session. She “just needed a photo for her graduation announcement” but lets be real folks: you don’t get dolled up for ONE photo!! I made sure to make her time worth it with a variety of choices for her.
Lauren rocked the beach and made me fall in love with the black and white conversions!
In 2012 this cute little blonde chick and her husband asked me for some holiday photos. I was primarily shooting back then, and I loved all the new clients that were coming my way! After all I lived in the barren desert of Twentynine Palms where hardship goes to thrive and small businesses wither away.
In 2013 We moved out of that desert, to another one: Phoenix. Another one where the Minks family moved to as well just before we arrived! They had just purchased a new home and they were so thrilled about it they wanted a housewarming shoot.
In 2014 the Minks Family announced they were expecting baby #2! And Again, I was lucky enough to capture that for them.
In 2015 they said HELLO! To Little man #2, wonderful Nixon & I got to bless them with a Fresh-48 hospital session.
Finally, in 2016 before Oh! MG Photo bid Phoenix, AZ a final Farewell, the Minks family asked, begged, PLEADED with me to PLEASE do ONE. MORE. SESSION!
How could I say no?
Thank you Minks Family for trusting in me through the years! And if you’re ever at the ocean.. you know who to call.
One perk to being friends with a photographer is you could at any time find yourself subject to a random session, “just because.” I really adore my friends youngest- she’s got such a kind free and pure spirit. We knew we’d have to work on her terms because she’s after all two years old, and will self destruct at any moment in time. Know whats hard to bounce back from? A stage 5 toddler melt down. You know, when the kid goes limp, lays there, thrashes, and snot comes out of every hole in their head?
I am a Family and Children’s photographer and I know deep in my heart, below all this camera gear, that I can produce images of this small Tasmanian devil, but feelings of worry, fear, uncertainty are completely natural and normal given the subjects!
It was a chilly Phoenix, AZ morning, and we made-do with the harsh 7:30am light we had available in some high grass with minimal shade. I picked the time, and the place. I wanted to see what I could do with the light. Baby girl – she was having an off morning; I mean any toddler would if they were cold and just woke up. I just tried my best to make friends with her. When she showed signs of boredom, we tried to consume her attention with something else. Above left is the result of momma playing “peek!” on a bridge. Baby girl sure enjoyed those laughs. You can see her eye squinting our of happiness mid belly laugh. I may be unique in this, but i absolutely love her fly-away hairs and how they capture the morning light. It must a mom thing: Seeing a child so esthetically “unperfected” yet appear in my mom-goggle eyes as “adorable as hell.”
And I’m not sure why, but just capturing the childlike essence and unaltered soft nature of a child not looking at the camera is something to capture. The young features, the features that say, “i’m still your baby momma,” they’re all so overlooked when we are in the hustle and bustle of the day to day. We let her pick up rocks and as she peered down i’d snap some of her lashes We let her play with the reeds around her, and dig with sticks! Never be afraid of getting your fingers dirty when it comes to the little ones.
And then of course, there’s always snuggles with the one who can create the comfort; who can make the strange lady with the camera go away. a good zoomed in shot, a shot over mom or dads shoulder — those always bring out genuine feelings in the child’s eyes and body language.
When shooting with toddlers: be scared (but don’t show it!!) It will help you think on your feet, always changing and checking your settings, sweating your face off while asking if they can find you a new rock, or stick, or whatever – while squatting in high grass in the morning sun. you’ll get a work out, and you’ll probably leave with a confident session turn out.
I have to admit, I took a chance with the light. Its why some are in black in white. I really was battling some green casts. But with that said, I leave you this:
Hay have you heard? I’m moving to Oceanside, CA in July and I’m already looking forward to sessions out there! Get in touch with me to schedule your family portraits this fall season!
I am still OhMGPhoto, I’m just..
We move every few years, and this time it’s back to some roots we have: CA. Our daughter was born in San Diego, not far from where we will be living. I made tons of friends and memories in CA and I’m super excited for this next chapter in our lives.
Some of my daughters friends are there, some (a lot of) my past clients are there, and tons of memories of my husband and I pre-baby are always gonna be there.
I can’t WAIT to meet up with some past clients!! Let’s bask in the sun & catch up, shall we?
I spent a chilly evening with the Von Haaren Family last month chasing their kids around and trying my best to create a control to the chaos! these two year old twins gave me a run for my own money. I’m pretty sure my fitbit was like “calm down, calm down” tracking my steps.
I’m loving the colors and tones that came from the collection of images I delivered to mom. Doesn’t the little girl look like a walking American Girl Doll with that perfect completion and the pigtails?!
If you’re interested in booking a session and appearing on my blog, contact me via the contact link and get in touch with me! Lets make an awesome session happen!
So I’m at the park this afternoon, and it’s just ablaze with families. Birthday parties, kids running amuck and parents just paces behold them.
moms, dad, aunties, grandmas; all with their phones or cameras grabbing moments in time and freezing them.
I saw a mom on a blanket in the grass with her son while he lay on his belly with her capturing his tummy time.
A mom chashed her two kids avidly as they darted around the play ground with what I could only suspect as her new Christmas present, a Sony camera.
Fathers on kid watch point their phones up to their kids that sit atop a slide before descending.
But it where are those photos going?
Are they going to Facebook for likes?
Are they going to Instagram to show off?
Missy MWAC (Lynn Cartia) is a very strongly opinionated woman who is very pro-print and here’s what she’s got to say about printing (which I just love, and couldn’t agree more.)
That last one there- gosh, that’s one hits so close to home. You know, after my mom passed I made a small 4×6 book of images I loved and had on my hard drive of my mom. Mostly; my mom and my daughter or myself.
After moving to Phoenix, I made quick, cheap, shutterfly books of trips we made including one of just family selfies.
After that I utilized an app for my iPhone called Print Studio which sounds fancy but really it’s quit simple. I printed 30+ of my favorite Instagram images and the best part is they came out as little squares on QUALITY (and I mean QUALITY) PAPER.
(what better way to show you than an iPhone photo?)
I have them strung on thin Jute hanging in a frame like a clothes line.
I had a client over once to pick up an order and she remarked how awesome it was! I showed her the app and the ease of it.
And just as I type this? I uploaded images from my phone to mpix.com’s mobile app so I can print them. What happens: I sit on my couch, download the Mpix App from the App store.
I log in and upload images I have in my Photos and on Intagram and upload them to my account. I then ZZ went to bed. ZZ
This morning while checking my email (and finished off this post) I quick jumped over to Mpix.com where I logged in and check out my new “mobile uploads” album that I can easily print. 4×4 and 4×6 are BOTH .49c each, which is great because for personal printing I trust their quality and I don’t have to worry about the square prints costing more like they sometimes do.
You CAN order images straight from your phone by adding them to your cart! But I like to proof them on my computer where I don’t have fat fingers and a tiny screen.
Please do me a huge favor and take the right first step into 2016: Print your iPhone, Phone, Camera, iPad Images.
My last haul on prints? $20 bucks. Thats like 1 month of Starbucks Gold Card auto-refill for my family. Re-locate your priorities for a few months and then hang (and hug) your prints. <3
Not sure what to say besides,”Phew!”
I was so blessed to have a steady 2015.
Toward the end though, it also gave me some time to regather my brand and decide on new directions to go.
I surely met my own milestones in a business perspective.
“Baby Steps” Sessions are geared toward children up to one year old & can be shot in my home studio space or outdoors.
It comes with 5 images which lends to as a perfect “milestone” capture.
(Kids attention spans and cooperation levels are at an all time low at this age window!!)
I really miss tiny kids being behind my lens! I mean, come on look at this lil’ guy!!!
He’s TWO NOW and I still love this image to bits & pieces.
“Baby Steps” are priced at an affordable price point so a friend or family can even gift the session to someone who would otherwise not be able to afford or think to do such a session!
There’s fine print, so listen closely.

This amazing family celebrated 4 years of marriage, and were about to celebrate both their kids birthdays soon after this shoot!
The infectious smiles and happiness I got from the kids really shined through in all these images. Mom and dad were so happy with their session and rightfully so! ( I sort of really love it as well!)
